Italy’s Moment in the Sun
Italy is in a sweet place now, with an Italian yesterday recognized as the world’s fastest man (Olympic Gold, 100 meters). Italy basks still in the pleasure of recent victory in the European Soccer World Championship. These wins did much to buoy the spirits of Italians, for whom national sport victories are savored both intensely and personally.
Italy is well ahead of much of Europe and the United States in terms of the percentage of the population vaccinated. Among the vaccination public in Italy, the percentage of at least partially protected is 72.1% while 61.0% are fully vaccinated.
This summer and autumn, exhibitions (masks required in all indoor spaces), well-organized festivals, and outdoor musical events offer a vibrant performance selection, with Italian creativity on full display.
This year, Italians have every reason to feel they have earned their holidays. And nearly everyone is traveling domestically this summer, returning to traditional coastal or mountain destinations, to the family home, or exploring new Italian locations.
