Longing for Italy

There are moments when I am not in Italy and when I am overwhelmed by a longing for it.

As you review the photo essay below, please know that Insider’s Italy brings you every experience and every place you see here. We’d love to hear from you soon and to start the planning of a very special trip.

The intense flavors of a vibrant tomato “sugo”, and a hand cut egg “tagliolino”, all served on a pretty plate, on a Roman summer day, in front of a wall that is pink.

With a superb personal guide, seeing an antiquity for the very first time.. and being in profound awe as you learn about it.

When the crowds are gone in October, and the sun is sweet and warm, enjoying a seawater pool that is all your’s.

Joining in a tradition that is centuries old : walking through the Abruzzo in early summer and early autumn to accompany the sheep on a Transumanza.

Walking up to San Miniato on a January Sunday afternoon, to take in this view with others, and make it your own.

From April through mid July, hearing the swifts streaking overhead, shrieking in a single joyful voice as they glide over rooftops.

Generous Mena, who teaches you to cook with the extraordinary bounty from her garden. And who makes you lunches that you dream of.

A country with a never ending bounty of historical pageants that absorb children in academically accurate re-enactments of events and artisan crafts.

Holding each a lemon granita and a Negroni, both tasting so intensely of Italy.

Longing for Italy.

A place just to be.
