“When Can We Come to Italy ?”

“When the dust settles in this world I want to go back to each and everyone of those places and have a reset”.  Robin Finkelstein

“Marjorie, we are fully vaccinated, we want to know when we can come to Italy ?”.  George Pearson.

This month the U.S. Center for Disease Control announced that people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can travel without putting themselves at serious risk as long as they wear masks and take other precautions.

In relaxing its blanket stance against travel, the Center has liberated the millions of Americans who are longing to come to Europe as soon as they can do so safely.

The question is, when can you come ?

The European Union last year agreed that member countries would not independently lift travel restrictions.  And for now, the European travel ban continues.  So Italy, like its fellow EU countries, for now welcomes only European Union citizens and residents and their family members, passengers in transit, and students.

Italy is vaccinating at an ever-accelerating pace, with (as of yesterday) 13.286.783 vaccines administered to date.  Over 15% of the country’s eligible population is vaccinated while 6.6% is fully vaccinated.  There is a way to go.  The plan is that everyone of vaccination-eligible age will vaccinated by the summer — by the end of June by some counts, by August by others.

Please keep your eye on this space, as we will update you regularly as vaccination paces accelerate in Europe and — oh hallelujah ! — European borders open up.

Among those vaccinated is someone many past travelers know well.  Gustavo, our beloved driver, who says that he is ready to set to work tomorrow.
